Tinnitus and Acupressure Points

Acupressure is one the alternative treatments for tinnitus – an ear problem characterized by ringing in the ears. Tinnitus is one of the problems targeted by acupressure and other alternative medicine. Experts in this field have found ways to relieve tinnitus, and acupressure points are the key. This process involves no side effects, and this is a good thing for most sufferers and treatment seekers.

Here are the steps to finding the acupressure points to relieve tinnitus and other ear problems.

1.    If you place one finger at the back of your ears, there is a bone ridge of the skull. Just above this spot, known as the temporal bone, is the pressure point for the gall bladder. This spot should be easy to locate because it is just above the mastoid bone – the bony protrusion behind the ear lobes. The pressure points located in this area has been found to ease symptoms of anxiety, head ache, and muscular tension in the neck area, as well as hearing problems like tinnitus and hearing loss.

2.    Allow your fingers to palpate the area behind the ear lobes. Now, run your fingers upwards to a point just above the ear lobes. You are again touching your temporal bone and in this particular spot is another pressure point.

3.    The points located precisely on the mastoid behind the ears and the temporal bone just above the ear lobes are pressure points that help alleviate headaches, hearing loss, ringing ears, and neck tension. Thus, if you place your fingertips on these points and press these areas gently, you would notice some relieving and relaxing sensation. In fact, this is one way to get relief from tinnitus, and acupressure points are the key spots.

4.    If you have trouble finding these spots, browse over reference materials you can find on the web. You can also ask an acupressure expert. Nevertheless, with the clues given above, this task should be easy.

Acupressure is one of the alternative practices in medicine that developed in Asia. Learning these pressure points and how to stimulate them yourself are independent ways to ease minor discomforts. This would reduce hospital visits and the dependence on over-the-counter drugs.

This mode of relief, however, is best coupled with other treatments. Acupressure may not be solely effective, but can be included with other treatments to speed up recovery.

Tinnitus and acupressure points are two concerns in the alternative medicine - the former being a disorder and the latter being the curative means.

Ear Infection Causing Ringing In Ears

Tinnitus is an affliction that is caused by so many factors. One is by upper respiratory tract infections. Flu and common cold viruses sometimes reach the ears through the Eustachian tube. When they do, inflammation occurs, causing congestion in the auditory tube. This congestion results to build up of fluid in the middle ear allowing viruses and bacteria to breed. This means that ear infection causing ringing in ears must be treated right away or better yet prevented.
There are a few bits of advice you may want to check out. Take a look.

1.    Prevention of colds or influenza is impossible. No vaccine or potion can make one less vulnerable to these viral infections. People get natural immunity after an infection with a specific strain of virus, and viruses mutate rapidly that yesterday’s cold virus is most likely different from todays. Vaccination does not make people free from these viruses. What it does is lessen the symptoms and duration of the viral infection. Prevention of colds and flu can include right, healthy diet. Foods rich in vitamin C and zinc helps boost the immune system, raising one’s defenses against viral and bacterial infections. Enough sleep and rest also does the same, such that people who do not have right sleeping habits are more prone to contract infection.

2.    Curing the infection right away is the key to halt progress of the disease, especially upper respiratory diseases resulting to ear infection causing ringing in ears. People usually have the bad habit of finding treatment and seeking medical attention when the symptoms become worse. This should not be the case. If the symptoms of colds and flu do not alleviate with the conventional over-the-counter medication, seek medical advice right away. Do not procrastinate because delaying only allows proliferation of microorganisms which could take the opportunity when your body’s defenses are low. Furthermore, tinnitus results from worsening of a common cold or influenza. Hearing impairment may follow.

3.    Go to your doctor. As mentioned earlier, when things get worse, self medicating is discouraged. Go to your GP and have your condition evaluated for proper diagnosis and treatment. A GP can point you to the right physician and can give you the right medication. An ENT specialist can precisely evaluate the conditions affecting the upper respiratory tract. You will be given the proper advice on how to deal with your condition.

An ear infection causing ringing in ears can lead to temporary or permanent deafness. Therefore taking precautions is ideal.

Ringing Ears Wax

Our ears typically have ear wax and it is nothing that should worry you.  Any healthy individual has ear wax and it has serves as our protection from dust, bacteria and insects.  Our earwax is produced by the glands in our ear canal and believe it or not, we do not actually need to remove it since it just naturally gets removed from the ears while we sleep. Our jaw movements also help in removal of ear wax.  Now why then can earwax cause ringing ears?  Wax in the ears that hardens or gets impacted can bring problems like tinnitus.

Lizzie was curious why the ENT told her that she has too much earwax in her ears and was eventually pointed as the reason for her ringing ears.  Wax in the ears eventually gets impacted when we try to clean our ears the wrong way.  In the case of Lizzie, the uses q-tips to clean her ears daily.  After her morning shower, it has become her daily routine to clean her ears with q-tips.  Cleaning with q-tips is fine, according to her ENT, as long as she only uses it to clean her outer ears.

Lizzie made a big mistake by using the q-tips digging into her ear canal trying to remove her earwax.  She was actually pushing more earwax deep down further her inner ears, making it difficult for the earwax to be removed normally.  Eventually she was beginning to feel uncomfortable and started feeling pain and a ringing in the ears.

It was good that Lizzie had her earwax removed by a specialist.  If she did not have it removed, she could most probably be having balance problems and even hearing problems.  It is definitely a good idea to have the wax removed way before you start having the mentioned symptoms.

Aside from the ringing in the ears, an ear infection may also develop from ear wax accumulation.  It is said that a diet that contains high omega 3 fatty acids helps in allaying such problem.  On the other hand, a diet rich in dairy products is said to produce more earwax.

If you really want to make sure that your ear wax does not get accumulated and eventually impacted, do what as Lizzie did.  Go to your ENT and have your ear wax removed.  This saves you from the possibility of developing ringing ears.  Wax in the ears is good, but too much of it is definitely unpleasant – take note of that.

Tinnitus Treatment: Stifling the Ringing

Ringing ears can rob you of a good life. The next thing you know you are in your bedroom afraid to go out as the world has become a miserable place for you. Get yourself together. It’s not the end of time. Although it is true that there is no cure for ringing ears, it is not true that there is nothing you can do about it. Tinnitus treatment comes in a number of ways.

Tinnitus is not a disease. It is a symptom of at least one. Knowing what causes your ear to ring is essential to finding the right way to silence it. Treating the underlying disorder should treat the ringing as well.

Doctors prescribe a lot to help patients with tinnitus. A tinnitus treatment can be antidepressants, but the effects of such medications are yet to be fully studied. Retraining therapies are also available to assist persons in coping with the condition. Hearing aids and tinnitus maskers help too. Sound maskers generate more pleasant sounds to cover up the noise heard in tinnitus. At home, your electric fans, radios, television, and clocks can serve as masking devices. Hearing aids strengthen the surrounding sounds to compensate with the hearing loss that accompanies tinnitus.

Tinnitus is rarely a serious condition in itself. It becomes a problem when it bothers the afflicted. In this case counseling may help. This psychological or behavioral intervention is geared to alleviating the person’s emotional stress. Relaxation techniques like yoga and meditation work against stress. Stress is an aggravating factor that worsens tinnitus and it increases the intensity of the ringing.

If you have tinnitus, keep in mind that you would have to change your ways in life. There are a few things you might want to avoid starting today. Exposure to loud noise is one. Damaged ears are not supposed to be damaged further. There is a major connection between loud noise and tinnitus. On the other hand, do not expose yourself to total silence too. If your room is too quiet at night, chances are you will be hearing much of the ringing in your ears, and this will only bother you more. You can play a soft music or put a clock near you to mask the sounds inside your head. Avoid salty foods and caffeine. Refrain from smoking. Exercise regularly. Don’t be such a couch potato, but don’t overwork yourself. Get adequate rest too.

The best way to stifle the ringing is to educate yourself. Tinnitus treatment depends on you. Get the right information.

New Treatment for Tinnitus

Experts are still on research to make possible new treatment for tinnitus that is more effective than the current drugs and therapies. Many people are becoming more disappointed with how doctors are managing their condition through all the sorts of medication that they prescribe for their patients. Nevertheless, everyone is just looking for what must be the real remedy, and the real remedy is just dodging all the research attempts. In the field of scientific medicine, new treatments come as transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS). This has offered relief and new hope to some patients under study, but the effectiveness of this method is still under scrutiny. On the field of alternative science, homeopathic approach has given new hope to those whose ear ringing cannot be cured by any scientific means (though homeopaths argue that their procedure is also scientific). Alternative medicine has been scowled at by scientists who point out that this field has never been totally accepted by science.

The following short quiz will help you find out more about some “breakthroughs” on tinnitus medicine.

Is there a cure for tinnitus? Which among the statements do you think is the most appropriate?

a.    There is no cure for tinnitus and patients will have to succumb to their progressing condition.

c.    There are a lot of cure for tinnitus like caffeine, alcohol, and salt.

Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) is one of the newest medical studies done in the hope of finding new treatment for tinnitus. How does this program work?

a.    Patients under study are placed in a tank covered in magnets where they wait until they no longer hear the ear noises.

b.    Patients under study are subjected to electrocution to kill abnormal nerve cells in the brain that cause tinnitus.

c.    Patients under study are exposed to a magnetic field fixed by an apparatus in the head to deactivate some areas in the brain.

Which of these could best describe why homeopathy is considered an alternative medicine?

a.    Homeopathy is not yet considered a scientific medicine because no substantial studies are made to confirm about its efficacy.

What is Causing my Tinnitus

I am one of the millions of people around the world who unfortunately has a ringing in the ears.  Although my case of ear ringing is one that is bearable, I was still puzzled and curious to know what is causing my tinnitus.  I started to notice my ringing in the ears when I had my sinusitis.  This honestly made me think that my sinusitis caused my tinnitus.

I went to an ENT specialist when I was beginning to feel fullness in my ear and the physician removed some discharges in my ears which gave me relief from the itchy sensation and fullness of my ears, but my ringing in ears was still audible.  So this made me think twice if my sinusitis was a factor causing my tinnitus.

As explained by my physician, we all have mucous in our mucous membranes and these drains from our middle ear down to the throat while passing the Eustachian tubes.  Our Eustachian tube is a very narrow tube.  For a person having sinusitis, the mucous production is abnormally thick that it cannot pass thru the Eustachian tube.  This causes the buildup in our inner ears, thus making us hear an ear ringing.

What I was wondering about was why I still continue to hear a ringing in the ears now that I no longer have a sinusitis.  To fully understand what was going on, I decided to do my own research, hoping to find the answers to all my questions, and this is what I found.

There are several causes of tinnitus, like impacted earwax, frequent exposure to loud noise, punctured ear drums, ear infections, presbycusis, Meniere’s disease, tumors, head and neck injury.  Aside from the causes of tinnitus, there are also factors that aggravate a tinnitus which can make the ringing in the ears sound much louder like stress, anxiety, allergies, colds and loud noise.

Having known all these facts, it made me think what is causing my tinnitus.  I do have a small puncture in my eardrums.  This is what I think causes my ringing in the ears, while my sinusitis was the one aggravating it.  The intensity of the sound of the ringing in ears for each person having a tinnitus can range from mild to severe. In my case, the ear ringing was just mild without a sinusitis but intensifies everytime I have a sinusitis.

Things are now clearer for me.  What is causing my tinnitus was my punctured eardrums and my sinusitis was the one aggravating it.  Which is why I only notice my tinnitus everytime I have a sinusitis.

Ringing Ears Cure

An ear ringing is one of those conditions that may be very difficult to diagnose, as well as difficult to treat.  Several studies have actually been done and there are more rumors than facts on what actually causes it what ringing ears cure should be used.

When a close friend of mine started having symptoms of a ringing in the ears, she was not worried at all.  Life went on as usual.  Nothing changed so much in her life.  However, a few months later, as things started to bother her, it was to be considered as a turning point in her life.

The ringing in the ears was just too loud to ignore that it became a big issue for her.  She began losing interest in doing the things that she needs to have done because her ringing in ears deeply bothered her and she began looking for a ringing ears cure.

Music happens to be the thing that my friend can’t live without.  Even while taking a shower, she just has to listen to her favorite music.  And even as she goes to sleep, she uses music to lull her to sleep.  But now that she has problems with tinnitus, she is finding it real hard to have even just 4 hours of sleep.

She has actually complained that her ringing in ears is much louder at night, thus making it hard for her to achieve a period of silence and fall into deep sleep.  This has become a major health concern for her and her family.

Good thing I was able to read about tinnitus masking therapy, which I immediately recommended to her.  Now, she has slept longer hours and no longer has problems falling asleep.  Aside from the masking therapy, she has also read something about homeopathic tinnitus remedies which she did not hesitate to try using for this alternative treatment was completely risk free.

While my friend still hears an ear ringing every now and then, it has stopped to be a major health problem for her.  In fact, there are even times when she would not notice her ringing in the ears that has become almost inaudible in some instances, making her feel like her ringing ears cure has totally eliminated the tinnitus that she once had and giving her a new lease in life.

The Fastest and Most Effective Ringing Ear Remedy

What could be worse than being diagnosed with a ringing in the ears? Perhaps it has to be dealing with the ringing noise on a constant and daily basis.  When you talk of it as a condition, you are aware that there isn’t a cure for it, but there is a ringing ear remedy which helps manage the medical problem which may be causing the ear ringing.

What are the two things that you need to avoid if you want to keep your ear ringing subtle?

a.)    Stress  b.) anxiety c.) both

You actually need to avoid both.  Both stress and anxiety give a very big impact on the loudness of the ear ringing.  As they say, it can become an ugly cycle.  A person having a ringing in ear may feel threatened and thus making them feel anxious and stressed, that only aggravates their tinnitus, making it sound much louder than the usual.  A much louder ear ringing only gives more stress and anxiety and notice that the cycle just won’t stop.

What are the type of foods that you must avoid eating?

a.)    Salty foods  b.) fatty foods  c.) none

Both salty and fatty foods have to be avoided by those who have tinnitus.  Since hypertension and high levels of cholesterol are amongst the identified causes of tinnitus, particularly the pulsatile type of tinnitus.  Aside from fatty and salty foods, food that contains caffeine must also be avoided.  And while there are foods that you must avoid, you need to eat healthy and nutritious foods to keep your immune system healthy.

What is the better ringing ear remedy?

a.)    Natural remedies b.) Alternative Remedies c.) Conventional remedies

We all have our personal preferences and the type of remedy that we prefer may depend on it.  There are effective natural, alternative and conventional remedies that may all work for a person having a tinnitus.  Natural remedies like avoiding stressful events, avoiding caffeine and salt has been proven to naturally help reduce the ear ringing, while alternative remedies like homeopathic tinnitus remedies and herbal remedies also provide enough relief from an ear ringing.  Cases of tinnitus that are clearly diagnosed with the medical problem causing it, may be given remedy using prescribed treatments by a physician, otherwise known as the conventional remedies.

Find the fastest and most effective ringing ear remedy may be a challenge for some, but fortunately for some people it has been absolutely easy.  Those having difficulty finding the best remedy that should work for them need to put in a little more patience and a lot of hope to believe that one day they will meet their match.

Tinnitus Cure: The Do’s in Taking Control of Ringing in the Ears

There is no tinnitus cure, but you can take control of it. With some do’s here and there, you can stop ear ringing from being a factor in your life. And this is much like having cured from it, isn’t it? Following this guide, you can actually consider yourself a former tinnitus sufferer:

Ø       Do your assignment by educating yourself about ringing in the ears. There is so much to learn about it, especially its causes. Your knowledge is definitely helpful in the next step you are going to take.

Ø       Do visit your doctor and consult with him the ringing in your ears. He or she will conduct some tests to determine the root cause of the unwanted sound. If you did your assignment, you would know that the known causes of ear ringing are medical conditions, ranging from ear disorders to circulatory problems. Its treatment is then primarily dependent on what caused it, and having the root cause determined will help you find the appropriate treatment.

Ø       Do get the appropriate homeopathic tinnitus remedy. As mentioned, ringing in the ears is treated according to what caused it, and the homeopathic remedies address this. They are prepared to focus on treating the root cause, and there is a corresponding homeopathic remedy for each of the main causes known as the noise-induced cochlear damage, stress, sinusitis or allergies, and Meniere’s Disease.

Ø       Do make efforts to manage stress. You are exposed to various stressors everyday, and before they accumulate and affect your overall health, manage them properly. Talk to a friend, write down your feelings, or anything that would work for you. You can also find help from treatments like counseling, meditation, hypnotherapy, and a stress relief formula.

Ø       Do make sure to boost your immune system. The immune system defends your body from infections and diseases that may trigger or increase the level of the unwanted sound. Thus, efforts should be made to boost your immune system. Apparently, a proper diet, regular and proper exercise and enough sleep at night are very important in keeping the system strong. You can also make use of an immune booster formula. Furthermore, avoid unhealthy habits such as smoking and excessive drinking of alcoholic drinks.

Ø       Do maintain a positive attitude. The road to having the closest thing there is to tinnitus cure may take some time, and getting frustrated easily will not help a bit. What you need to have, on the other hand, are patience and determination.

Causes of Ringing Ears – How Come I Have Ringing in My Ears?

When you have tinnitus, the first question that you may ask is that where is this annoying sound coming from. You may also wonder why the person sitting beside you does not hear it when both of you are in the same environment. So really, what are the causes of ringing ears?

But first, let us define tinnitus. It is the perception of sound in the ears or head where there is no outside source. This means only the sufferer can hear it (although there are limited cases where the unwanted can be heard through a stethoscope). Besides a ringing noise, there are other sounds associated with it, and these include humming, hissing, buzzing, roaring, clicking, whistling, and chirping noises.

The unwanted sound actually originates from inside the body. Generally, it comes as a symptom of an underlying medical condition. Thus, it is a misconception that tinitus is an infection or disease of sorts. On the other hand, it is much like fever that signals the presence of an unhealthy condition. It just means than its cause must be determined with the help of tests that your doctor will conduct.

There are different conditions that are associated with ringing in the ears. The most common are noise-induced cochlear damage, stress, sinusitis or allergic reactions, and Meniere’s Disease.

As the term implies, noise-induced cochlear damage is brought about by repeated exposure of the ears to loud noise. Activities like listening to MP3 player at a high volume and going to concerts frequently without using any ear protection device all contribute to your cochlea getting damaged. To avoid this from happening, you can still enjoy doing these activities with the help of some preventive measures. One is to set the volume of your MP3 player to not more than 60% of its maximum volume. Another is to wear earplugs and not staying near the speakers when attending concerts.

Stress is also a common cause of the ear ringing, hence, efforts should be made to have it managed properly. Make sure that you have time for relaxation. Stay away from counterproductive relaxation activities such as smoking and excessive drinking, though. Treatments like counseling, hypnotherapy, meditation, and acupressure can also help you manage and control stress.

Further conditions that are known causes of ringing ears include presbycusis or age-related hearing loss, earwax impaction, acoustic neuroma, head trauma, muscle tension, hyperthyroidism, vitamins B12 deficiency, hypertension, and atherosclerosis.
